In Loving Memory of Raim Farkhadi
With pride and gratitude, we share an important announcement that reflects the enduring significance of Raim Farkhadi’s legacy. His contribution to children’s literature has received international recognition.
In 2022, he was nominated for the most prestigious international award in the field of children’s literature — the Hans Christian Andersen Award 2024. This was a historic milestone: for the first time, an author from Uzbekistan was put forward for this award by the National Section of IBBY Uzbekistan.
The Hans Christian Andersen Award, established in 1956, is presented every two years by the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY) for an outstanding contribution to world children’s literature. The award is given only to living authors and illustrators, with nominations coming from national sections in over 80 countries.
Raim Farkhadi was nominated during his lifetime and lived to learn of this high honour. While the award cannot be presented posthumously according to the official rules, the nomination itself stands as an exceptional and historic achievement for both Uzbekistan and global children’s literature.
An official nominee certificate was recently received from jury chairperson Elizabeth Page — a significant international recognition of his creative work.
