On May 15, on the occasion of International Climate Day, the family of Raim Farkhadi took part in the opening ceremony of the Global Youth Festival held in the Japanese Garden of Tashkent.
We presented his books and magazines dedicated to ecology and environmental protection. This event, taking place just one day before his birthday, held special meaning for our family.
The opening ceremony was attended by Ziroat Mirziyoyeva, Chairwoman of the Board of Trustees of the Zamin Foundation; Felipe Paullier, Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations; Alisher Sadullaev, Director of the Youth Affairs Agency; as well as young eco-activists and environmental experts.
Raim Farkhadi was not only a poet, writer, journalist, and artist, but also one of the first ecological educators in Uzbekistan. His books — Climate Change Through the Eyes of Children, Chemical Universe, The Saiga from the Red Book, and A Walk in the Zoo, or Lessons in Biodiversity Protection (The Nature's ABC) — continue to inspire a new generation to care for the environment.
He has also founded and was editor-in-chief, and principal author of Spring (Rodnichok rus. ; Bulokcha uzb.) — the first ecological magazine for children in the country, published in Russian and Uzbek from 2009 to 2021 with the support of the Ecological Movement of Uzbekistan, the State Committee for Ecology and other organizations.
Raim Farkhadi was also the first poet to raise the issue of the Aral Sea in his work — in December 1967, he wrote a poem dedicated to the tragedy of the Aral.
His legacy continues — through his books, in the hearts of readers, and in the ideas of a sustainable future.
